Our Story

About Us – The Outpost Band

Welcome to the official website of The Outpost, a high-energy Southern rock band based in Dubuque, Iowa. We’re a three-piece group made up of high school students who love making music and putting on great shows. We blend Southern rock, classic rock, blues, country, and a little bit of everything else to create a sound that’s familiar, exciting, and always fun.

Who We Are

The Outpost is made up of:

• Joseph Mullen – guitar, vocals, drums

• Nick Faley – bass, vocals

• Calvin Welter – guitar, drums

We’re students at local high schools in Dubuque. Joe and Nick are part of the class of 2026, and Calvin is class of 2028. Despite being young, we’ve already played some awesome shows and built a reputation for bringing great energy and musicianship to every event we play.

How It Started

We got our start performing at Holy Family’s Circle of Celebration, a local fundraising event. It was such a great experience that we decided to keep the music going. What started as a one-time gig has turned into something we’re proud of, and we plan to keep performing throughout high school and maybe even beyond.

What We Play

Our setlists are full of fan favorites across a variety of genres. If you're into classic rock hits, soulful blues, upbeat country music, and especially the raw, gritty sound of Southern rock, you’ll love what we bring to the stage. We cover artists from Lynyrd Skynyrd and ZZ Top to Tom Petty, Stevie Ray Vaughan, and more.
